It was a match made in heaven. They spend every minute of every day together, it was only natural for it to happen. But when champion racehorse Shooting Star opted to decline a marriage proposal from renowned horse whisperer Teddy Armstrong, the world entered cardiac arrest.
“I was just shocked, you know?” said Myles Anderson, Armstrong’s life long friend and nightly shoulder to cry on. “It was just like, one moment they’re happy, and the next moment Shooting Star is bucking crazy.” For those that are unaware, bucking is when a horse shoots its hindquarters straight into the air.
The ring, which is a custom made 24-karat gold Horseshoe is rumored to have cost Armstrong approximately $19,000 CA will be hung above Armstrong’s living room mantle. “I feel like that’s the best place for it right now, in case she changes her mind, you know?” Armstrong said with a hint of hope that was closely followed by tears of doubt. “I mean, she felt the most comfortable around me. We shared ice cream together, I even got to ride her a few times when all the trainers went home.”
Shooting Star spent the remainder of the day working out her frustrations at the gym. “When I get anxious or frustrated in any way I come here and spend a few hours working the treadmill,” Star whinnied. “You know I can trot when this thing is at max?”
When asked about the proposal, Star showed no signs of interest in marriage. “I’m still so young! I want to go out with the other horses and have fun. I don’t want to be tied down, plus its just weird, he’s a human, and I’m a horse…Isn’t that illegal?”
Sheila Armstrong, Mr. Armstrong’s wife of 23 years could not be reached for comment.
